HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!! - custom valentines you can do yourself!!

Good morning everyone!! Today, I am going to share some of the little crafts that my kids and I did over the weekend in preparation for the day of LUUUUUUUVVVVV.

We started out online looking for inspiration. We took cues from a few different craft ideas and came up with candy kabobs with custom labels. (you will have to forgive the black and white labels, as our color printer is ker-busted)

Here is how you do it....fairly self-explanatory :)

We started by heading to the store to find appropriate candies and skewers... we ended up using valentine fruit snacks, strawberry filled pink marshmallows, heart shaped marshmallows, jelly (gummy) red hearts, we tried to use twizzlers, but our skewers were too thick :( I would recommend normal kabob skewers, but the only type we could find were corn skewers, which are thicker. Makes this a bit more difficult..

Thought I would share other candies that would work great.... gummy lifesavers, hot tamales, purple Mike and Ikes (formerly Jolly Joes), Twizzlers Nibs, gumballs, gum drops, and any other soft red, pink, or purple candy...needs to have a little give to it.

So, we had our stuff... now we were ready to get sticky!! Plan on this taking about 2 minutes per skewer...

1) we counted out the number we needed and made piles to make it a more streamlined process...

2) Next we figured out the order and made a "model" skewer. This is an important step if you have little one's helping...they need a little direction :) When all of the candy is on the skewer, break off the pointy end to avoid any injury (or naughty little boy poking others) issues at school.

3) Start plugging away, and pile them up!.. my daughters have a total of 55 kids in their classrooms, so we made skewers for about 2 hours.

4) We made custom labels for each of the kids... my 7 year old wanted the Beib :( and my 5 year old wanted princesses for the girls and Star Wars for the boys.. We found an image on google search and resized and added Text it with Microsoft Publisher. (Microsoft Publisher can be a very simple and effective tool to do light editing if you play with it for awhile) I printed them onto 4x6 index cards, and we scored and folded each one. One staple did the trick to seal up the bag which we had double folded on the end.

5) We sealed the bags and had the girls do a personal message on the back of each card.. voila'!! Personal and unique valentine treats! I cannot wait to see how their friends reacted! By the look of that little face in the back (my oldest), I think they will like them.

Hopefully you will get a chance to do this fun activity with your kids!! It is also an excellent idea for Birthday treats or an activity at a party or holiday event for kids!

Happy Valentine's Day Everyone!!!
